Boston Issues Forum Tea Party
Written by Steven Clift
Are you tired of the highly partisan use of the Internet in politics? Do you have a vision for something different that brings people and communities together rather than simply tearing politicians apart?
I’ll (Steven Clift) be in Boston for a number of conferences from Thursday, February 22 through Saturday, February 24. Let me know - - you’ll be around and feel free to suggest a time that we connect at any of these events. I am particularly interested in connecting with those interested in launching an online Issues Forum for their local community.
The events:
- Thursday, February 22 - 1:30 p.m. - Better than Blogging? Building Local Online Dialogue - at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government - Part of a two part session on e-democracy topics. If you want a full two hours of me, not sure who would :-), this is the main event in terms of learning about E-Democracy.Org’s approach to local Issues Forums. Special thanks go out the the Leadership for a Networked World Program at Harvard for hosting this free ane open the public event.
- Thursday, February 22 - Thursday Meeting at Berkman Blogs - 7:00 p.m. - I’ll be sitting in with Andy Carvin and look forward to meeting some of the world’s most interesting collection of bloggers making a difference.
- Friday, February 23 - Social Media Track - Case Study: The 2008 Presidential Election at the Public Media 2007 Conference of the Integrated Media Association Conference - I’ll be sharing highlights from our 2006 Minnesota 2006 Gubernatorial E-Debate and speculating on the proposed U.S. Presidential E-Debate (pre-primary) with web-oriented folks primarily from the public broadcasting community.
- Saturday, February 24 - Local Up! Working Group - Beyond Broadcast Conference at MIT - This looks to be a very cool event. I’ll be facilitating the working group session called “Local Up!” Join us.
See you in Boston!

[…] I’ve put my full schedule for Boston on the E-Democracy.Org blog. A real highlight looks to be the Beyond Broadcast conference on Saturday. This is one of the best examples of a conference using a wiki to organized itself from working groups to birds of a feather dinner parties. They are also using del.icio.us to share links and Flickr to share photos all simply be encouraging folks to use the unique tag ‘beyondbroadcast.” This same concept worked with the “mnpolitics” Voter Voices effort and I think it could work in the U.S. presidential election to create a number of more visable “content streams” of voter driven content. During the conference they’ll have an active IRC chat space and it looks like a place on Second Life. I wish more conferences used such interactive tools to their fullest … of course the audience for this conference is made up of folks who get and use these many tools almost everyday. […]
